Anna's Daisy Set Story
In 2021 we launched our first Headband Design Contest where children currently battling an illness or survivors of a childhood illness could submit their own design to be created as a limited edition headband. Anna, a 13 year old cancer survivor from Erie, PA, was selected as our very first contest winner. Her beautiful daisy design has continued to spread hope, her story, and our give back mission to people around the world. She has been treated at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where she personally handed out headbands to other children going through treatment as well.
21 Pineapple's Set Story
About the collab: There are certain medical conditions that children with Down Syndrome have a higher chance of facing than their typically developing peers. The more severe include heart defects resulting in open heart surgery (25%) and although rare (1%) Leukemia. Others that can be common but more easily managed are: Sleep apnea- difficulty breathing while sleeping. Dysphagia- swallow disfunction where thin liquids go to the lungs instead of down the esophagus. Hypotonia- low muscle tone which requires children to receive physical therapy and sometimes orthotic braces for support in walking. 21 Pineapples and Headbands of Hope have teamed up to bring awareness to these children by developing an exclusive hair accessory line. For every 21 Pineapples by Headbands of Hope product purchased, one will be donated to a child with down syndrome who is currently up against any number of medical challenges like those mentioned above. Both organizations live for the mission that being a good human through small acts of kindness can make a big impact.
